8/19 Jul 1799 the United American Company (Soedinënnaja amerikanskaja kompanija|Соединенная американская компания), established on 3/14 Aug 1798 as a result of the merger of two former companies, is renamed the Russian-American Company (Rossijsko-amerikanskaja kompanija|Российско-американская компания) and placed under the patronage of the Emperor of All Russia, in accordance with an imperial decree issued on 8/19 Jul 1799 (Russia Laws Complete Collection I, 25:699-718)
1802 a representative of the Russian-American Company receives the appointment as the Chief Administrator of the Russian colonies (settlements) in America [1]
8/20 Jun 1867 the territory possessed by Russia in North America is ceded to the United States, in accordance with a treaty signed in Washington, D.C., by representatives of the United States and the Emperor of All Russia on 18/30 Mar 1867, which becomes effective on the date of the exchange of ratifications on 8/20 Jun 1867 (Statutes at Large, 15:539-544; Russia Laws Complete Collection II, 42:421-424)
6/18 Oct 1867 the territory, ceded by Russia to the United States in accordance with the treaty signed in Washington, D.C., on 18/30 Mar 1867, is transferred to the United States in the presence of plenipotentiaries of both nations in Sitka (New Archangel), as recorded in a protocol signed on 14/26 Oct 1867 (FRUS, 40th Congress, 3rd session, 1868, Part I, p. 479)
  1. The instructions to the Chief Administrator were issued in St. Petersburg on 18/30 Apr 1802 and delivered to Sitka (New Archangel) probably on 1/13 Nov 1802 or by April 1803.
