- Károlyi was appointed the Prime Minister of the Hungarian National Government (Magyar Nemzeti kormány) constituted on 5 May 1919 at Arad (moved to Szeged on 30 May 1919) in opposition to the Revolutionary Governing Council (Forradalmi Kormányzótanács) established in Budapest.
