[1]	Recognized as the German Emperor (Deutscher Kaiser) in accordance with Art. 11 of the Constitution of the German Conferedation (Reich) effective 1 Jan 1871. Wilhelm issued two proclamations concerning his acceptance of the imperial title on 17 and 18 Jan 1871 and was publicly proclaimed at a ceremony held in Versailles, France, on 18 Jan 1871.
