Pending the entry of the first President of Ireland upon his office the functions of the President were exercised by a Commission consisting of Chief Justice (Príomh-Bhreiteamh) Sullivan (Ó Súileabhain), President of the High Court Maguire (Mag Uidhir), and Chairman of Dáil Éireann Fahy (Ó Fáthaigh).
After the death of Childers (17 Nov 1974) and the resignation of O'Daly (22 Oct 1976), the functions of the President were exercised by a Commission consisting of Chief Justice (Príomh-Bhreiteamh) O'Higgins (Ó hUigín), Chairman of Dáil Éireann (Cathaoirleach Dháil Éireann) Treacy (Ó Treasaigh), and Chairman of Seanad Éireann (Cathaoirleach Sheanad Éireann) Dooge (Ó Dubhthaigh).
After the resignation of Robinson, the functions of the President were exercised by a Commission consisting of Chief Justice (Príomh-Bhreiteamh) Hamilton (Hamaltún), Chairman of Dáil Éireann (Cathaoirleach Dháil Éireann) Pattison (Mac Pháidín), and Chairman of Seanad Éireann (Cathaoirleach Sheanad Éireann) Cosgrave (Mac Cosgair). The term of Cosgrave as Chairman of Seanad Éireann expired on 17 Sep 1997, when Mullooly (Ó Maoluola) was elected on his place and, accordingly, became a member of the Commission.
