[1] | Formation of a provisional government was announced in newspaper Cứu Quốc on 24 Aug 1945. The government was constituted at its first meeting 27 Aug 1945 and issued an official circular naming the members on 28 Aug 1945 (reprinted in Official Gazette, No. 1, 29 Sep 1945, p. 2). |
[2] | Born as Nguyễn Sinh Cung (阮生恭); name changed to Nguyễn Tất Thành (阮必成); also known under pseudonyms Nguyễn Ấi Quốc (阮愛國), Lý Thụy (李瑞), and Hồ Chí Minh (胡志明). |
[3] | The Constitution of 1946 provided for election of a State President (Chủ tịch nước) by the People's Parliament (Nghị viện nhân dân) which was never convened. Following the creation of the Supreme Defence Council (Hội đồng Quốc phòng Tối cao), a body concentrating military and political authority, Hồ Chí Minh began to use Chủ tịch nước in legislation which he promulgated. |
