- Páez was appointed Jefe Superior de Venezuela by a decree of the President of the Republic of Colombia of 1 Jan 1827 and accepted the office on 2 Jan 1827 in Valencia, arriving to Caracas on 10 Jan 1827. The authority of Jefe Superior extended to the territory of departamentos of Orinoco, Venezuela and Zulia.
