- Jennings was commissioned as deputy governor and arrived in New Jersey in September 1680, but hesitated to proclaim his commission. On 25 Nov/5 Dec 1681 Jenings signed the Fundamental Agreements and was accepted as deputy governor by the General Free Assembly held in Burlington. He was elected governor by the General Free Assembly and engaged on 14/24 May 1683.
- Before the departure of Jennings to England, Olive was nominated deputy governor on 5/15 Apr 1684 to serve until the next General Assembly which elected Olive as governor on 20/30 May 1684. He was re-elected on 12/22 May 1685 and served until the arrival of Skene who had been commissioned by the proprietors.
