  1. Blount was appointed by a commission issued by the President of the United States on 8 Jun 1790. He took the oath of office before an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States at Alexandria, Virginia, on 20 Sep 1790. He arrived to the Territory on 10 Oct 1790 and was publicly proclaimed governor at a popular meeting in Jonesborough on 23 Oct 1790.
  2. Following the adoption of the Constitution of the State of Tennessee, the governor, secretary, judges, and other officers of the territorial government were authorized by a provision of the Constitution to continue in office until superseded.
