1 Mar 1817 the western part of the Mississippi Territory is authorized to form a constitution for further admission to the Union in accordance with an act passed by the Congress of the United States (Senate on 31 Jan 1817, House of Representatives on 26 Feb 1817 with amendments, amendments are concurred in by the Senate on 27 Feb 1817), signed into law on 1 Mar 1817 (Statutes at Large, 3:348-349) [2]
10 Dec 1817 the Constitution of the State of Mississippi, adopted by the Convention of the western part of the Mississippi Territory on 12 Aug 1817 and signed on 15 Aug 1817, is approved, Mississippi is admitted to the United States under the name of the State of Mississippi in accordance with a resolution of the Congress (passed by the Senate on 3 Dec 1817, House of Representatives on 8 Dec 1817, approved by the President of the United States on 10 Dec 1817) (Mississippi Convention 1817, pp. 101-103, 105-106; Statutes at Large, 3:472-473)
