  1. Matthew Cradock was named Governor by the same letters patent (charter) that established the Governor and Company of the Massachusetts Bay in New England on 4/14 Mar 1629. He took the oath of office in London on 18/28 Mar 1629 and his appointment was published with the delivery of the Charter to Massachusetts in Jun/Jul 1629. John Endecott, who had departed for America in 1628, was initially "confirmed" as governor before 17/27 Apr 1629, and was subsequently formally elected as "governor in the plantation" by a General Court held in London on 30 Apr/10 May 1629. Endecott received notice of his appointment along with the Charter in Jun/Jul 1629 and assumed office in Massachusetts. Cradock remained in England and continued to serve as Governor until his successor, John Winthrop, was elected on 20/30 Oct 1629.
  2. Winthrop was elected and took oath of office at a General Court held in London on 20/30 Oct 1629 and arrived to Naumkeag (Salem) on 12/22 Jun 1630.
  3. Also in England.
