  1. Following the death of the Governor, his functions devolved on the Speaker of the Senate.
  2. Following the resignation of the Governor, his functions devolved on the Speaker of the Senate.
  3. Henry Molleston received the majority of votes at the election of governor in 1819, but he died before the General Assembly certified his election on 7 Jan 1820. Governor Stout submitted his resignation to the General Assembly on 15 Jan 1820 and the functions of the Governor devolved on the Speaker of the Senate Stout who took the oath of office on the same day.
  4. Following the death of Governor Collins, the functions of the Governor devolved on the Speaker of the Senate Caleb Rodney who made the affirmation of office on 23 Apr 1822.
  5. Following the death of Governor Haslet, the functions of the Governor devolved on the Speaker of the Senate Charles Thomas who took the oath of office on 24 Jun 1823.
  6. Following the death of Governor Bennett, the functions of the Governor devolved on the Speaker of the Senate Charles Polk who took the oath of office on 12 May 1836.
  7. Following the death of Governor Stockton, the functions of the Governor devolved on the Speaker of the Senate Maull who took the oath of office on 5 Mar 1846.
  8. Following the death of Governor Maull, the functions of the Governor devolved on the Speaker of the House of Representatives Temple who took the oath of office on 6 May 1846.
