4 Jul 1819 part of the Missouri Territory is constituted as a separate territory of the United States under the name of the Arkansaw territory in accordance with an act passed by the Congress of the United States (House of Representatives on 20 Feb 1819, Senate on 1 Mar 1819), signed into law on 2 Mar 1819, effective on 4 Jul 1819 (Statutes at Large, 3:493-496) [1]

15 Jun 1836 the Constitution of the State of Arkansas, adopted by the Convention of the Territory of Arkansas on 30 Jan 1836, is approved and Arkansas is admitted to the United States under the name of the State of Arkansas in accordance with an act passed by the Congress of the United States (Senate on 4 Apr 1836, House of Representatives on 13 Jun 1836), signed into law on 15 Jun 1836 (Arkansas Convention 1836, p. 51; Statutes at Large, 5:50-52) [3]
  1. Full title: An act establishing a separate territorial government, in the southern part of the territory of Missouri.
  2. The spelling used in the act of the United States Congress of 2 Mar 1819 was "Arkansaw territory." The same definition was used in the commissions of territorial governors issued by the President of the United States in 1819, 1825, 1828 and 1829.
  3. Full title: An Act for the admission of the State of Arkansas into the Union, and to provide for the due execution of the laws of the United States, within the same, and for other purposes.
