11 Jan 1980 provinces of Barcelona, Gerona, Lérida and Tarragona are organized as an autonomous community (comunidad autónoma / comunitat autònoma) of Spain under the name of Catalonia in accordance with the Statute of Autonomy of Catalonia of 1979 (passed by the Congreso de los Diputados of Spain on 29 Nov 1979; Senado on 12 Dec 1979; signed into law 18 Dec 1979; effective on the 20th day after the publication in Spain Official Gazette as required by Art. 2.1 of the Civil Code of Spain) (Spain Official Gazette, No. 306, 22 Dec 1979, pp. 29363-29370; Catalonia Official Gazette, No. 38, 31 Dec 1979, pp. 576-594) [1]

23 Jan 2013 the people of Catalonia is declared a sovereign political and legal subject in accordance with a resolution passed by the Parlament of Catalonia on 23 Jan 2013, approving the Declaration on the Sovereignty and Right to Decide of the People of Catalonia (Declaració de sobirania i el dret a decidir del poble de Catalunya) (Catalonia Parlament Journal, Sèrie P, No. 4, 23 Jan 2013, pp. 60-61) [2]
27 Oct 2017 Catalonia is proclaimed a sovereign and independent republic in accordance with a resolution passed by the Parlament of Catalonia on 27 Oct 2017, acting on the results of a referendum held on 1 Oct 2017 (Catalonia Parlament Journal, Sèrie P, No. 85, 2017, pp. 28-29) [3]
28 Oct 2017 Catalonia is placed under direct administration of the federal government of Spain in accordance with a royal decree of 27 Oct 2017 (authorized by a resolution of the Senado of Spain adopted 27 Oct 2017), effective upon publication (Spain Official Gazette, No. 261, 28 Oct 2017, pp. 103545-103557; Spain Senado Bulletin, No. 166, 28 Oct 2017, pp. 70-71)
17 May 2018 autonomous administration is de facto restored with the appointment (15 May 2018) and swearing-in (17 May 2018) of a President of the Generalitat (Catalonia Official Gazette, No. 7622, 18 May 2018, CVE-DOGC-A-18137057-2018)
