Cantabria: Presidents of the Government: 1982-2024The commencement of term of a President of the Government is deemed to have started on the day of swearing-in ceremony which follows the election by the Asamblea Regional (1982-1999) and Parlamento of Cantabria (from 1999), and appointment by a royal decree issued by the King of Spain. |

[1] | The Statute of Autonomy for Cantabria (effective 31 Jan 1982, amended in 1991, 1994, and 1997) provided for the election of a Presidente de la Diputación Regional de Cantabria who was ex officio President of the Government. Starting with the appointment of Rodríguez Martínez by a royal decree of 1 Apr 1982, all appointments referred to the holder of the office as Presidente de la Diputación Regional de Cantabria. The style used in legislation varied depending on the type of a document: a) Presidente de la Diputación Regional de Cantabria (promulgation of laws), and b) Presidente del Consejo de Gobierno (decrees issued by the Council of Government or by the President of the Government). |

Starting with the (re-)appointment of Martínez Sieso by a royal decree of 23 Jul 1999, all appointments refer to the holder of the office as Presidente de la Comunidad Autónoma de Cantabria.
