13 Sep 1979 constituted as a sovereign and independent state in accordance with the Status of Venda Act, 1979 / Wet op die Status van Venda, 1979, passed by the House of Assembly and Senate of the Republic of South Africa on ___ 1979 and 21 Jun 1979 respectively, assented to on 2 Jul 1977, effective on the date [13 Sep 1979] fixed by a Proclamation of the State President of the Republic of South Africa of 10 Aug 1979 (South Africa Government Gazette, No. 6572, 13 Jul 1979, pp. 2-5; South Africa Government Gazette, No. 6644, 31 Aug 1979, p. 1) [1]

1990 English is recognized as the official language, Venda and Afrikaans may be used for judicial and administrative purposes in accordance with the Republic of Venda Constitution Amendment Proclamation 1990 (Proclamation 22 , 1990)
27 Apr 1994 Status of Venda Act, 1979 / Wet op die Status van Venda, 1979 is repealed in accordance with Art. 230 (1) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1993 / Grondwet van die Republiek van Suid-Afrika, 1993 (effective on 27 Apr 1994) (South Africa Government Gazette, No. 15466, 28 Jan 1994, pp. 2-227) [2]
