[1] The Constitution of 1990 provided for exercising the duties of the President of the Republic (Predsednik Republike) by the President of the National Assembly (Predsednik|Predsednica Narodne skupštine), but did not specify whether the president by age of the National Assembly is considered a provisional Head of State. At the inaugural session of the National Assembly (27 Jan 2004) elected for the period 2004-2008, Velimir Simonović (Велимир Симоновић) assumed the chair as president by age and served until the election of Dragan Maršićanin (4 Feb 2004) as President of the National Assembly.
