17 Jun 1937 Russian, Karelian and Finnish are given equal status for the publication of legislation and judicial proceedings in accordance with the Constitution of the Karelian ASSR adopted by the Extraordinary Congress of Councils of the Karelian ASSR on 17 Jun 1937 (Red Karelia (Finnish), No. 138, 18 Jun 1937, p. 4)
27 Jul 1938 the references to Finnish in the Constitution of the Karelian ASSR are excluded in accordance with a law amending the Constitution passed by the Supreme Council of the Karelian ASSR on 27 Jul 1938 (Karelian ASSR Supreme Council Records, No. 1, 13 Jun 1939, pp. 3-4)
31 Mar 1940 the territory ceded to the Soviet Union by Finland on the basis of a treaty concluded by the Soviet Union and Finland on 12 Mar 1940 is transferred to the Karelian ASSR which is reconstituted as the Karelo-Finnish Soviet Socialist Republic in accordance with a law passed by the Supreme Council (Verhovnyj Sovet|Верховный Совет) of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics on 31 Mar 1940 (Red Karelia (Russian), No. 75, 1 Apr 1940, p. 1; USSR Supreme Council Proceedings 1940 – 6th Session, pp. 46-60, 499-500) [6]
  1. Original spelling as found in the minutes of the Presidium and cited publications: Korel'skaja Trudovaja Kommuna (Корельская Трудовая Коммуна). The printed resolution in Izvestija was undated and the publication in the RSFSR Laws and Orders Collection was dated 8 Jun 1920.
  2. The Russian and "Karelo-Finnish" languages were declared equal on the territory of the Karelian ASSR in accordance with the resolution of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee and the Council of People's Commissars of the Russian SFSR approved on 25 Jul 1923 (cited above).
  3. The substitution of neuvostotasavalta (Soviet Republic) with the Russianized version (sovettitasavalta) began after 11 Mar 1936.
  4. The adoption of the Constitution of the USSR on 5 Dec 1936 mandated the change of the order of words in the polity style in Russian from Socialist Soviet to Soviet Socialist. The change however did not affect the order of words in Finnish where "Soviet Republic" formed a single word (sovettitasavalta).
  5. The spelling and orthography for the Karelian style are given in accordance with the Karelian version of the Constitution of the Karelian ASSR (1937) and the collection of legislation published in 1939. The transliteration is according to the scheme used for the Russian language (GOST 16876-71).
  6. Full title (Russian): Zakon o preobrazovanii Karel'skoj Avtonomnoj Sovetskoj Socialističeskoj Respubliki v Sojuznuju Karelo-Finskuju Sovetskuju Socialističeskuju Respubliku (Закон о преобразовании Карельской Автономной Советской Социалистической Республики в Союзную Карело-Финскую Советскую Социалистическую Республику).
