The Commission of Government was appointed by a decree of Emperor of the French Napoléon I^er signed in Warsaw on 14 Jan 1807. It was entrusted with the administration of the Polish territories that had formed part of Prussia and were then occupied by the armed forces of France. The Commission held its inaugural meeting on 15 Jan 1807, during which Małachowski was elected president.
