- Bierut was appointed Chairman at the clandestine meeting of the State National Council held in Warsaw during the night of 31 Dec 1943/1 Jan 1944 and took office in Lublin on 15 Aug 1944. He was formally assigned with the functions of President of the Republic by a law passed by the State National Council on 9 Sep 1944 (dated 11 Sep 1944, effective on promulgation on 20 Sep 1944).
- The word Przewodniczący was replaced with Prezydent in accordance with a law passed by the State National Council on 31 Dec 1944 and promulgated on the same day.
