- Macpherson was granted leave of absence and departed from Nigeria on 12 Apr 1955, when Marshall assumed the office of Officer Administering the Government. A commission issued on 24 May 1955 appointed Robertson as Governor-General effective from 2 Jun 1955, but he took the oath of office on 15 Jun 1955. Since Robertson's commission did not expressly supersede that of his predecessor, both appointments were technically valid between 2 Jun and 15 Jun 1955.
- Original name: Benjamin Nnamdi Chukwuemeka Azikiwe
