- Márquez was appointed Lieutenant of the Empire by imperial decree issued in Querétaro on 19 Mar 1867. Following the capture of the Emperor on 15 May 1867 by the army of the United Mexican States, Márquez remained the highest-ranking official of the Empire in its capital, Mexico City, which remained under siege until its surrender on 21 Jun 1867.
