Biography:

The elections held in November 1929 were won by the engineer Pascual Ortiz Rubio, the first official presidential candidate of the National Revolutionary party (PNR), who received 94 percent of popular vote over Jose Vasconcelos, nominated by the National Anti-Reelection party. Pascual Ortiz was forced to resign after his differences with the strongman of the period, Plutarco Elias Calles, made his government untenable. His resignation (dated 2 Sep 1932) was accepted by the Congress on 4 Sep 1932. It gave way to the Sonorense businessman and general, Abelardo L. Rodriguez.
