- Landsbergis was elected Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Lithuanian SSR at the session held on 11 Mar 1990. Shortly after the election of the chairman and vice chairmen, the Supreme Council passed a law changing the name of the state to the Republic of Lithuania (Lietuvos Respublika).
