4 May 1990 the declaration of the People's Assembly (Tautas Saeima) of Latvia of 21 Jul 1940, proclaiming Latvia a Soviet Socialist Republic, is recognized null and void; the effectiveness of the Constitution of the Republic of Latvia of 1922 is restored in accordance with a declaration passed by the Supreme Council (Augstākā Padome) of the Latvian SSR on 4 May 1990 (Cīņa, No. 99, 8 May 1990, p. 1)
