The change of the name was confirmed in the Constitution of 1947 (published in Official Gazette, No. 886, 1 Feb 1947, pp. 602-610; effective 1 Mar 1947). A notice from the Prime Minister of Jordan (dated 14 May 1949) was published in Official Gazette (No. 984, 1 Jun 1949, p. 155) and reiterated that the change had been effected by the resolution of the Legislative Council of 25 May 1946 and the Constitution of 1947, and that the name of Sharq al-Urdunn (Transjordan) still found in occasional use should be replaced with al-Mamlakah al-Urdunīyah al-Hāshimīyah (in Arabic) and Hashemite Kingdom of the Jordan (in English). |
