[1] The exercise of executive authority by the king was discontinued on 13 Jun 1946 when a declaration of the Council of Ministers transferred the functions of the head of state to the President of the Council of Ministers (Presidente del Consiglio dei Ministri), pending the election of the Provisional Head of State (Capo provvisorio dello Stato).
