22 Sep 1792 refers not to proclamation of the Republic, but to the resolution of the Convention nationale (National Convention) to date official documents by the first year of the French Republic. Though constantly used for official purposes, the style République française did not have Constitutional status until the enactement of the Constitution of the Year III on 22 Aug 1795. |

The style Empire français gradually replaced République française after the proclamation of Napoléon I as emperor (18 May 1804). The date 1 Jan 1809 is prescribed by decree of 22 Aug 1808 for the replacement, on coins, of the legend RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE by the legend EMPIRE FRANÇAIS. |

As found in the declaration of the Sénat conservateur of 2 Apr 1814, "... le gouvernement provisoire de la France." |

Definite proclamation of the Republic was issued by the Gouvernement provisoire (Provisional Government) on 26 Feb 1848. The public ceremonies marking this event took place in Paris (26 Feb 1848 and 27 Feb 1848). |
