- Before the promulgation of the Constitution on 1 Aug 1964, Président de la République is frequently substituted with Chef de l'État in legislative acts; between 1 Aug 1964 and 29 Oct 1971 Président de la République is sometimes extended to Président de la République Démocratique du Congo in official use.
- Kasa-Vubu (also spelled as Kasavubu) was elected the head of state of Congo on 24 Jun 1960 and was sworn in on 27 Jun 1960, pending the accession of Belgian Congo to independence as required by the Basic Law of 19 May 1960.
