- Jiǎng Zhōngzhèng announced his decision to retire (effective on 21 Jan 1949) when the functions of office devolved on the Vice President Lǐ Zōngrén (李宗仁) who acted for the absent incumbent. During his tenure Lǐ Zōngrén was styled Dài zǒngtǒng (代總統) | Acting President (21 Jan 1949 - 1 Mar 1950). Jiǎng Zhōngzhèng resumed the presidency on 1 Mar 1950, although Lǐ Zōngrén, who had left the national territory on 20 Nov 1949, refused to acknowledge this decision.
- Jiǎng Zhōngzhèng died at 23:50 5 Apr 1975. The functions of office devolved on the Vice President Yán Jiāgàn who took the oath of office as the President at 11:00 6 Apr 1975.
