29 Nov 1990 the change of the name to the Republic of Azerbaijan (Azәrbaycan Respublikası) is recommended for adoption by the Supreme Council of the Azerbaijan SSR in accordance with a decree issued by the President of the Azerbaijan SSR on 29 Nov 1990 (Kommunist, No. 276, 1 Dec 1990, p. 1)
5 Feb 1991 the name of the state is changed in accordance with a law passed by the Supreme Council of the Azerbaijan SSR on 5 Feb 1991 with immediate effect (Kommunist, No. 28, 8 Feb 1991, p. 2)
