[1] This term has no Constitutional status before 25 Apr 1848, and has dynastic rather than territorial import - it was deliberately preferred to Kaiserreich. It is intended to encompass all the hereditary possessions of the Haus Österreich, and is so defined in the Constitution of 7 Mar 1849; in the Constitution of 25 Apr 1848 it is similarly used, but excludes the "Hungarian" and "Lombardo-Venetian" possessions.
[2] This polity is informally known from its inception as Österreich; this usage receives official recognition in passing in an Imperial Rescript of 11 Oct 1915. It and A Magyar szent korona országok = Länder der ungarischen heiligen Krone are the two components of the Österreichisch-Ungarische Monarchie = Osztrák-Magyar Monarchia, a term given official sanction 14 Nov 1868.
