The commission of Hampton was set to be revoked upon the issuance of the commission for Sir Benjamin Chilley Campbell Pine as Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over the Colony of Western Australia on 20 Jul 1868. However, Pine never took office in Western Australia and the revocatoin of Hampton's commission was not effected in usual manner. Pine's commission was formally revoked upon the reading of commission of Weld on 30 Sep 1869.
  4. Following the departure of Hampton on 2 Nov 1878, the functions of Governor devolved on the Senior Military Officer in Command of Her Majesty's Land Forces in Western Australia John Bruce who took the oaths on the same day, pending the arrival of a Governor.

  8. Following the departure of Smith on 22 Mar 1900, the functions of Governor devolved on the Chief Justice Onslow who took the oath of office on 23 Mar 1900. The resignation of Smith was accepted on 30 Jun 1900, while Onslow continued in office as Administrator of the Government until the office of Governor of the Colony of Western Australia was replaced by that of Governor of the State of Western Australia on 1 Jan 1901, when the letters patent constituting the former were revoked and the new letters patent were read and published.
