9 Jul 1963 the colonies of the United Kingdom, North Borneo and Sarawak, and the State of Singapore are set to be federated with the existing States of the Federation of Malaya into the Federation to be called "Malaysia" in accordance with an Agreement Relating to Malaysia signed by the representatives of the United Kingdom, the Federation of Malaya, North Borneo, Sarawak and Singapore on 9 Jul 1963 in London (amended by the parties on 28 Aug 1963) ("Malaysia: Agreement to form Malaysia and draft constitution." 31 Aug 1963 the sovereignty of the United Kingdom over North Borneo, Sarawak and SIngapore is relinquished on 31 Aug 1963 in accordance with an act passed by the Parliament of the United Kingdom (House of Commons on 19 Jul 1963; House of Lords on 26 Jul 1963; received Royal Assent on 31 Jul 1963; effective on 31 Aug 1963) (Public General Acts, 1963, pp. 881-885) [3]

9 Aug 1965 Singapore ceased to be a state of Malaysia in accordance with a proclamation issued by the Prime Minister of Malaysia on 9 Aug 1965 (Official Gazette, No. 66, Extra, 9 Aug 1965, pp. 2186-2187)
9 Aug 1965 Singapore is proclaimed a sovereign and independent nation in accordance with a proclamation issued by the Prime Minister of Singapore on 9 Aug 1965 (Official Gazette, No. 66, Extra, 9 Aug 1965, pp. 2184-2185)

[1] Full title: An Act to provide for the establishment of the State of Singapore and for the peace, order and good government thereof; and for purposes connected with the matters aforesaid (may be cited as the State of Singapore Act, 1958).

[4] The date of the commencement of the Malaysia Act passed by the Parliament of the Federation of Malaya, the Malaysia Day, was originally fixed for 31 Aug 1963. This date was later changed to 16 Sep 1963 by a proclamation of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong of 29 Aug 1963. When the sovereignty of the United Kingdon over Singapore was relinquished on 31 Aug 1963, the government of Singapore decided to proclaim the independence of Singapore on 31 Aug 1963, pending the accession to the federation of Malaysia on 16 Sep 1963.
