[5] Upon ratification on 7 Feb 1814 of the Treaty of Kiel, ceding Norway to the king of Sweden, the Norwegians are released from their allegiance, thus terminating this reign. The Treaty's provisions are overtaken by events in Norway; on 4 Nov 1814, however, the Norwegian crown is united with the Swedish one under one king.
